Insulation Removal
Insulation removal is the process of removing old, dirty, or damaged insulation from any living space. In most cases, an industrial vacuum machine is used to suck all the old insulation out.
This is useful for ridding your living space of unwanted pests, remnants, damaged insulation, allergens, and other trash or debris in your attic space.
This process is not always necessary but can be very beneficial to any home that has been collecting years of dirt, debris, re-roofings, pests, etc.
Once the insulation is removed, we gain access to the lid of your living space, where more work can be done to prevent energy loss in your home.
Attic Cleaning and Restoration
After the old insulation is removed, we can reach the bare ceiling surface above your living space, often called the home's "lid." We thoroughly clean this area, removing leftover dirt, dust, and debris.
Our goal is to restore your attic to a clean, fresh condition and prepare it for a new layer of insulation.
We also provide cleaning and restoration services for attics affected by smoke, fire, or water damage. This includes removing damaged insulation and cleaning the affected areas. For smoke-stained wood, we can apply an appropriate KILZ primer as part of the restoration process.
Fire Prevention and Energy Seal
This is a process we can take on after an insulation removal. Once we have access to the lid of your home, there are many gaps, seams, and penetrations that are leaking air. That means your cold air in the summer or your hot air in the winter is leaking much faster than it should.
This process is focused on sealing all those gaps, seams, and holes with an expandable polyurethane fire-retardant foam product. This will seal up all the little gaps moving air in your home for a much tighter energy envelope.
This is also a fire prevention method. The fire-retardant foam prevents fire from spreading into your attic or from your attic into your home through methods of travel by blocking airflow.
The foam itself is fire-retardant and doubles as an energy-saving agent.
Attic Insulation Reinstall
This is the process where your attic gets a fresh coat of insulation. Your attic is one of the prime places energy escapes your home. That is why insulation in your attic is so important.
Most homes in this region were built before the year 1990. This means that there is a good chance your insulation is at least 36 years old. Not only was code enforcement vastly different back then, but the further back you go, the less regulation there was over insulation. If your home was built in the ’60s, there’s a great chance you have little to no insulation in your attic.
This is devastating to your energy costs and harmful to your HVAC unit. If you’re leaking air and not retaining it in the envelope, then your unit is working hard, overtime, and not getting the breaks it should. This shortens the life of your unit, and those things aren’t cheap. Insulation is, though.
Whether you have little to no insulation or some insulation, we can take care of you, even if your insulation is newer and might just need a top-off. Let us come take a look and get you set up to save energy and money today.
This side of the business is my heart. I’ve spent my life doing insulation in the Texas Panhandle, and it is my desire to use what I have to give back. Yes, we need to make a profit, but I will work that in when I work with you.
Since reblowing your attic isn’t something we have to pull a permit for, there is no real regulation after the initial final inspection of a home. This is why homes can go decades without anyone ever thinking about fixing the old, worn-out, or nonexistent insulation.
If you can’t afford what we recommend but can afford something, then we will work to make something happen for you. Something in the attic is better than nothing. It’s a start we can work with.
We also provide PayPal and Sezzle and are working to provide an institutional option to help people finance insulation for their attic. The savings will pay for the loan and then start putting money back in your pocket to spend on your kids, your car, and essentials. In this economy, it’s necessary to find where you can save monthly.
Drill and Fill
Drill and fill is for homes that have no insulation where insulation should be. Older homes, including those built in the 1920s, often have no insulation in their wall cavities. That’s where we come in.
Working from inside your home, we drill access holes through the sheetrock into each uninsulated exterior wall cavity and fill it with loose-fill, blown-in fiberglass insulation. This process allows us to insulate enclosed spaces without removing entire sections of sheetrock. Areas we can address include:
- Exterior walls
- Subflooring systems
- Interior walls for sound dampening
This process causes minimal disruption to everyday life and can be completed in a morning. It is less invasive than tearing down sheetrock to expose the cavities, and it is less expensive and more manageable than a full-scale remodel.
After installation, the access holes will need to be patched by a professional drywaller. We save all the cutouts to make that step as easy as possible for the next trade.
Sound Dampening Insulation
Sound dampening insulation is a service we provide for homes that need a little extra cushion between the kids and the parents. Or maybe that guest bathroom is a little too noisy. This service is all about comfort and peace in your home.
In existing homes, we use our Drill and Fill process to install insulation in enclosed cavities. If you’re building a new home, we can install it while the framing is still open, before the sheetrock goes up.
We offer this as a separate service because it is not required for the home’s energy envelope. While many drill and fill projects address missing insulation in exterior walls to complete that envelope, sound dampening focuses on reducing noise between living spaces.
For this service, we access interior walls or subfloor systems and fill the cavities with loose-fill fiberglass insulation, providing sound dampening between rooms and floors.
Say goodnight in peace without hearing the kids screaming at Call of Duty in the other room.
Seasonal Weatherproofing
Seasonal weatherproofing helps keep the air you pay to heat and cool inside your home. Small gaps around doors, windows, and other openings can let outside air in and conditioned air out. Weatherstripping seals the moving edges of doors and windows, caulk seals smaller cracks and stationary joints, and expanding foam fills suitable larger gaps. Together, these improvements help cut down on drafts, improve comfort, and reduce wasted energy.
At A1 Insulation, we look for common air leaks and help you address them with the right material for each area. Our weatherproofing service includes replacing worn weatherstripping, caulking gaps around frames and trim, and foaming accessible openings around pipes, wiring, and framing. Around window and door frames, we use foam designed for those areas. Whether you’re getting ready for Panhandle winter winds or summer heat, we can help tighten up your home and keep more of your hard-earned money from escaping through the cracks.
